Dinner and overnight camping at 3,000 meters.
Hiking Distance: 11 km
Hiking Time: 5-7 hours
Habitat: Montane Rainforest
Leave the rainforest behind and enter the moorland zone with stunning views of Kibo Peak. The trail becomes steeper as you climb rocky ridges covered in heather and volcanic rock formations. Reach the spectacular Shira Plateau, one of the highest plateaus on earth. Dinner and overnight at Shira Camp with magnificent sunset views.
Hiking Distance: 5 km
Hiking Time: 4-6 hours

Critical acclimatization day following "climb high, sleep low" principle. Ascend to Lava Tower at 4,640 meters for lunch and altitude adjustment, then descend to Barranco Camp through the alpine desert zone. This challenging day prepares your body for higher altitudes while offering dramatic scenery of glaciers and volcanic formations. Overnight at Barranco Camp beneath the famous Barranco Wall.
Hiking Distance: 10 km
Hiking Time: 6-8 hours
Habitat: Alpine Desert Zone
Conquer the iconic Barranco Wall with hands-on scrambling and breathtaking exposure—an exhilarating non-technical climb offering incredible photo opportunities. Cross alpine valleys with stunning glacier views and traverse ridges with 360-degree mountain panoramas. Short trekking day allows further acclimatization before summit push. Overnight at Karanga Camp with close-up views of the summit glaciers.
Hiking Distance: 5 km
Hiking Time: 4-5 hours
Habitat: Alpine Desert
Final ascent to Barafu Camp, your base camp for the summit attempt. The landscape becomes increasingly barren and arctic-like as vegetation disappears completely. Arrive at camp by early afternoon for rest, equipment check, and summit briefing. Early dinner and sleep before midnight summit departure. Mental and physical preparation under starlit African skies.
Hiking Distance: 4 km
Hiking Time: 3-4 hours
Habitat: Arctic Zone
Begin summit push at midnight under headlamps and starlight. Climb steep scree slopes through freezing temperatures toward Stella Point (5,739m) on the crater rim. Watch the spectacular sunrise over the African continent from above the clouds. Final push to Uhuru Peak, Africa's highest point at 5,895 meters—your lifetime achievement moment! Descend to Barafu Camp for rest and lunch, then continue down to Mweka Camp through moorland. Celebration dinner and overnight rest.

Yes, absolutely. We understand every climber has different arrival times, fitness levels, and preferences. Our team at Simbamwene Tours Ltd can customize the itinerary according to your needs — including adding acclimatization days, pre-trek warm-up hikes to Materuni Waterfalls, or post-trek safari/Zanzibar extensions. Just contact us and we will plan your perfect Kilimanjaro adventure.
Mountain accommodation consists of quality waterproof tents for sleeping (2-person occupancy) and spacious mess tents for dining. One night hotel accommodation in Moshi (3-star standard, double/twin sharing) is included either before or after your trek. Mountain camps have basic toilet facilities. Portable private toilet available for rental.
The Machame Route has an excellent summit success rate of approximately 85-90% due to its gradual acclimatization profile. Our experienced guides monitor your health daily using pulse oximeters and adjust pace accordingly. The "climb high, sleep low" strategy on Day 3 significantly improves acclimatization and summit success.
The optimal climbing seasons are June-October (dry season with clear skies) and January-March (warmer temperatures, fewer crowds). We avoid April-May (long rains) and November (short rains), though Kilimanjaro can technically be climbed year-round. Each season offers unique experiences and weather patterns.
Yes! Solo climbers are welcome and will join small international groups for cost-effectiveness and safety. Moderate to good fitness required. Ability to hike 5-8 hours daily on steep, uneven terrain at altitude. We recommend 3-4 months of preparation including cardio training (running, cycling, swimming), strength training (leg exercises, core), and practice hikes with elevation gain. Mental determination is equally important as physical fitness.
Our guides prioritize your safety above all. If altitude sickness becomes severe or weather conditions dangerous, early descent may be necessary. Partial refunds are not provided for early descent due to fixed park fees and crew costs. However, you receive a certificate for the highest point reached, and can rebook at discounted rates.
